Today’s card
All Things In Moderation
Not alot I can write about this since this is a personal mantra of mine. I sometimes spend too much money, but otherwise I live in moderation.
The book says:
“Your soul’s lesson: Follow a spiritual discipline of moderation and avoid extremes of any sort. Allow yourself to enjoy the nice things in life, but don’t let them overrun your good sense. Give yourself possibilities that follow a middle way, and remember, the option of all or noting is the one choice that never works.”
DUH.

Soul Lessons Oracle Cards
Got this set of cards by Sonia Choquette. I’m NOT a new-agey person or a religious person so I’m not sure what good they’re going to do me, however, the box says “the most direct path to Spiritual Peace and Personal Fulfilment” which sounds awfully good to me right now.
Today’s card: Strengthen Your Gifts.
The accompanying book says my life is chaotic and overextended right now (nope, it’s not). My soul’s purpose is to “direct [my] talents and gifts to enhance [my] light and the world.” Okay… I think that’s a bunch of hokey BS. Maybe I shouldn’t read the book, but just enjoy drawing a card and reflecting on it for the day. I flipped through the cards, and I really like them.

I joined a craft-along on Craftster
Today, I joined a craft-along on Craftster. It’s a “make-yourself-a-Christmas-gift-along”. These are the things I picked to make:
- sewing machine cover
- a scrapbook
- beaded necklace or bracelet
- handmade cards to send my friends
The scrapbook is actually cheating since I’ve already started it, but it’s not finished so I’m counting it. I’ve got the stuff to make the necklace, I just need to make it. And, I’ve got plenty of stuff to make the cards, I just need to spend some time over the weekend playing around (when I’m not quilting). The sewing machine cover is something somebody else made, I just thought it was cool, and want to make one myself.

I haven’t heard anything about my job interview yet…
It’s 9:15. I haven’t heard anything about my job interview yet. I expect they’d notify the “winner” first and then the “losers” (which I have a feeling I may be one of).
Either way, I can’t decide if I’ll be upset or not? I WANT a job, I’m just not sure this one is worth my gas money for 5 hours a week and I’m not sure I want to work in a smelly thrift store. I’m just on the fence about this job, and that’s disappointing since I should be excited and hopeful.
12:30… still no word… I don’t guess I got it.
12:45… didn’t get the job, dangit. The reason? The lady they picked shops in the store. That is SO not fair! They didn’t ask me that (not that I have, but still!). Oh, well… I want to be THRILLED about a job, not glad I didn’t get it. This just wasn’t the right one for me, I don’t guess.

New Year’s Resolutions
It’s already time for me to start thinking about New Year’s Resolutions. I make them every year with pretty good success (mostly because I only write down goals I KNOW I’ll succeed at!). So far I’ve come up with:
- drink more water
- wash my face EVERY SINGLE night (not every other night–EVERY single night!)
- get a job (if I don’t already have one by the New Year)
- read more (2 books a month is reasonable)
- volunteer more
- go to church
- memorize the books of the Bible
This is a good start. Anything I have listed on 43 Things is a good resolution, but these things are most pressing to me as resolutions. Writing them down and making them public makes them more “real” to me, too. Maybe that means I’ll actually accomplish them?

New Fabrics!
Just got back from fabric shopping! I think I finally have some fabrics that will give me the same look as my EQ6 drawing. At least I hope so. I found a beautiful blue tonal swirly wave pattern at Joann’s. I bought 4 yards (more than I need) because I like it so much. It was only $2.99 a yard, but it has a great weight and feel to it. I hope it washes nicely, maintains it’s weight and is easy to work with.
I also bought some other blue tonals in dark and medium values, and one light blue one. I just hope they all mesh together to make the quilt I envision.
UPDATE
Nice surprise: the fabrics washed beautifully! I can’t believe I found really cheap fabrics at Joann’s that feel so great after they were washed! Of course just the opposite has happened to me, too: I’ve gotten some $9 quilt store fabrics that felt cheap and flimsy after they were washed.

Bizarre Interview…
I have NO idea how my interview went. It was with two older women who told me everything the job entailed and then thanked me for coming in! I got to ask two questions, but otherwise didn’t say anything except “uh-huh” as THEY were talking. They didn’t ask me ANYTHING or let me get a word in edgewise! I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone.
They let me know they’re interviewing four people; they’ll make their decision today and notify everybody tomorrow with their answer.
Who knows… maybe my new suit, hair cut and freshly-waxed brows impressed them enough?
The only other bad thing is that I felt dirty when I left. I realize it’s a thrift store, and there are lots of dirty clothes hanging in there, but I didn’t realize I’d FEEL so dirty.

Here’s a photo of our Christmas cards
It’s cute, right? It’s made in a matchbook format with the fold at the top. The inside will hold a piece of vellum that I’m typing our info on. We’re still debating about whether or not to include a picture.

Designed my first quilt in EQ6!
I used EQ6 to design and color this quilt for my husband. I’d hoped to start sewing on it over Thanksgiving, but I’m disappointed in how my fabrics look in my test blocks like so I’m going to have to start all over with the fabric shopping.

Mom’s quilt is done!
This quilt is for my mom’s birthday. It’s called Lucky Stars. It has over 30 fabrics in it, and it took me over 3 months to make. I sent it out to be quilted, and got it back last week. I’ve been hand sewing the binding on for what seems like ages. I sat through “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Ocean’s 13” while I finished up yesterday.
I’ve been calling it the “giganti-quilt” because it turned out much bigger than I realized it would be (90×105).
See more progress on: Make a quilt
