I’m disgusted…
My new quilt looks awful! Individually, the blocks look great (they have really nice contrast). However, put together, they look way too random. I’m not sure what to do? I’m actually considering throwing the whole thing away to start all over! On the other hand, I spent too much money to just throw it away. Plus, I spent a long time cutting the stupid pieces. I am SOOOOO disgusted!
Hubby says to commit to making several more rows and then see how I feel about it. That’s a good idea, however, I’m pretty sure I’ll feel just as bad. This is a gift, and I don’t want to give a crappy gift. I just don’t know how to “fix” my problem. Mom suggested buying more/different fabric, but I don’t see how that’s going to help–I’ll still have a ton of pieces cut out, and nothing to do with them except throw them away. Well… I guess I can try to recut them into other sizes and see what I can do with them, but if they look too random for this quilt, I don’t imagine I can make them into something any more cohesive. Dangit! How frustrating.

Next Quilt…
I’m not even finished with the Marquee quilt, and I’ve already started on my next quilt. I’m calling it Jack’s Quilt, and it’s in browns, tans and creams. The EQ6 drawing isn’t that great because I’ve got a bunch of different brown, tan and cream prints that I’m working with. Most of them read as solids, though, so you can kind of get the gist of the quilt from the drawing.
I worked on the Corel Draw file over the weekend, and I started laser cutting yesterday. I should finish cutting this afternoon or maybe tomorrow so I can start sewing by this weekend. The directions have the blocks assembled in a funny way. I’ll have to play around and see if my idea of how to assemble the blocks is better than the directions. I wonder if you have to press the blocks in a certain fashion, and that’s why the assembly is so odd…???
Anyway, this quilt is called “Fall Frolic” in Evelyn Sloppy’s book, 40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Quilts.

Missing post… Marquee quit top is finished!
Oddly, the post I wrote yesterday about my Marquee quilt top being finished has VANISHED so I guess I’ll post it again:
I finished the Marquee quilt top on Sunday while hubby was camped out in front of the ProBowl. I am so happy with how it turned out. I’m also happy with the progress I made on it. I started in December and finished up at the beginning of February so I was pretty fast with it.
I didn’t measure it, but the directions say it should be around 85 x 104. In the photo, it’s on a queen sized bed, and it fits just fine.
Next steps: buying backing material, having it quilted and sewing on the binding.

More Marquee Quilt Progress
I’m so pleased with my quilt progress! I’ve got all of the blocks sewn into rows, and I’m in the process of pinning and sewing the rows together. I’ve only sewn two rows together, and the blocks are either aligning perfectly or VERY slightly off–not worth tearing out the stitches over… EXCEPT for one block that is oddly about 3/4″ totally off! I don’t understand how it can be sooooo off since the blocks before and after it are dead on…? Go figure??? I’ll definitely be picking the stitches out of that row. Doesn’t it figure that the block is in the middle and not easier to get to at one of the ends!
I found an online picture (from Google Books) here (on page 108) of three of the quilts I want to make from The Modern Quilt Workshop book. I should have used more darks in my blocks like they did, but I’m still pretty pleased with what mine looks like. The other two quilts are called “Outside the Box” and “Plain Spoken”.
Jeesh! I’ve got so many quilts I want to make it’s not funny!
Meanwhile… interest in the Craftster Modern Quilt Quiltalong is picking up. There are 5 or 6 ladies who’ve joined in. I’d love to see it get bigger so, anybody who wants to join can check out this post.
