The card party was FUN!

Saturday’s card party was a fun success.  Everybody had a great time.

We got off to a late start because of a poor old lost bull dog that wandered into the yard.  She was blind and deaf and ended up falling into the window well and couldn’t get out.  It was AWFUL to see her in such a state.  I had to crawl through the bushes to get to her and haul her out.  She had rabies tags but no tag to identify her owner so we called Animal Control in hopes they could track her owners down with the tag numbers.  I just hope they didn’t put her to sleep even though she had a TERRIBLE eye infection in both eyes, and her nose was a dried up and cracked.  Her toenails hadn’t been cut in a l-o-n-g time either.  She was just in pathetic shape.  And yet she had on a blue sparkle-y collar and a child’s stickers on the back of her rabies tags.  She’s somebodys, just somebody who hasn’t been taking very good care of her.

Anyway, the card party was soooo much fun.  After kind of rescuing the poor dog, I needed the cranberry and vodka drinks Cynthia had mixed.  I was a little nervous anyway because I so wanted everybody to have a good time.

I displayed the cards in a flower pot filled with florist’s foam and shredded paper.  I glued alligator clips to the ends of skinny dowl rods and inserted them into the florist’s foam, then clipped the cards to the alligator clips.  We used the pot as a centerpiece for the snacks and drinks so everybody could see what cards we were going to make.  Then we moved the pot to the table so everybody could see the individual cards as we made them.

Out of all the cards we made, the ”Hello Baby” card is my favorite, I think.  Both the elephant and the words are raised with foam tape, and the background paper is some Autumn Leaves paper I got in a package from Walmart.  I laser-cut the elephant.  S/he is so cute.  This was the girl baby card.  The baby boy card is blue and says “Baby B    y” with a little round face (raised with foam tape) for the “o”.  It is soooo cute (I don’t have a scan of it, though, to show you so use your imagination!).

I took extra rubber stamps and my corner rounder and let everybody play with those, too.  They took some creative liberties and really made the cards their own rather than making them exactly like I had them put together.  I think that is GREAT!  Some people have to do it exactly as they see it, but this group didn’t.

Today is my card party

Today I’m getting together with some girly friends, and we’re having a card party.  They’re paying me $20 a piece and I’m bringing all the parts and pieces and glue to make 10 cards each.

I chose the designs, and we’re making 2 thank you, 2 birthday, 2 baby, 2 wedding, 1 blank and 1 get well soon.

I’ve put together 20 more designs to show them so maybe I’ll “book” another party today.  That will be fun if I can get them as hooked to cardmaking as I am.

The blank card is the handmade paper card I posted earlier.

The party starts at 3:30 and I want to get there early to set up so I need to get a move on!

Handmade card

Yesterday, I made several more handmade cards.  This is one that I made with my new navy blue Treasures cardstock.  It’s PaperAccents paper, and I LOVE it.  It has a nice texture, and is VERY heavy weight.  I had to score it to be able to fold it.

The only thing I don’t like about this cardstock is that it has a little strip at the bottom of it that tells the name of the cardstock.  You have to trim that strip off before you can use it.  That’s not very hard to do, but it’s annoying that they would manufacturer the cardstock this way.

Pop-up photo cube is here!

My pop-up photo cube arrived yesterday.  It’s a little cube that you put stuff in to take “undistracted” photos.  It’s small–only 15″, but I think it’s the perfect size to photograph my cards.  Now I just have to figure out the settings on my camera so I can take better pictures.  I need to figure out the macro function.

The cube came with red, blue, black and white backgrounds.  I have the white in it now, but I wonder what the black will look like?

Many Thanks Card

Many Thanks

Here’s a pretty card I made yesterday.  It says “Many Thanks” beneath some new patterned paper I just bought.  It turned out really nice, I think.

And here’s a similar one that I mounted on red cardstock.  I didn’t put any type of greeting on it, but it would be a good wedding one.

And, here’s the last one using the same patterned paper.  The sequins at the bottom are irridescent (sp?), and look really cool.

Making cards like a maniac!

Since quitting my job, I’ve been making cards like crazy! I want to sell on etsy, and I need to get some “stock” built up so I’ll have something to sell!

The photo is of a handmade paper one. The flowers are laser-cut and they have rhinestone centers. It’s a very pretty card, I think.
