January Depression
Now, sadly, is the time of year that I get really depressed. The holidays are over with so there’s nothing to look forward to except a couple more months of bleak, winter weather. Ugh. A friend of mine told me to always sechedule a vacation during the month of February because that gives you something to look forward to after Christmas, and by the time you get back, Spring is just around the corner. Wise advice, I’d say.
HOWEVER… (and this may sound really silly, but…): I’m having fun playing along with all the crafty stuff on Craftster.org! I want to participate in three craft-alongs; I’ve already signed up for the Destash Swap; and, I’m waiting on the STU ATC swap. Plus I have the SewConnected Block Swap that I’m participating in.
The three craft-alongs are #1. The De-stash-along; #2. The Crochet-along and #3. The 2009 Handmade Holiday Crusade-along. The last one should be a riot. The organizer is posting a theme each month, and then you post your completed projects to be entered in a drawing for the month! The January theme is ornaments, and since I LOVE ornaments, I can’t wait to play along.
Also, to keep me busy this winter, I’ve hooked up with an organization called 4People.org. It’s an organization that provides online resources for people in need. I’m volunteering to double check their website for the King County, WA area (that’s Seattle–I had to ask). I’m supposed to go through each listing and double check that the website and phone number listed are correct and if they’re wrong, find out the correct info. I’m also supposed to find “hidden resources” such as churches that offer assistance to people in need. That’s going to be hard for me to do considering I’m not from Seattle and I don’t know anyone there! Oh, well… I’ll do what I can.

January Crochet-along square!
I finished my January Crochet-along square yesterday afternoon. Here’s a picture:

One corner is kind of wonky, the whole thing is wobbly looking, and it turned out to be 12-1/4″ rather than 12″, but I think it’s beautiful! I can’t believe I read the pattern directions and made something this pretty.
The center part was supposed to be 11″, but mine turned out to be 10″ instead. I had to add another row of double crochet around the border.
I can’t wait for February!

Blank Mini Cards
Yesterday, I played more on making cards. These are some very, very simple cards, but I love them because they used up every last scrap of some of my new K&Company paper. The card bases are made from some left-over art paper I had from a project I made eons ago. The eyelets are the only things “new.”
