Another Craft-along!
There’s ANOTHER craft-along on Craftster.org that I’m thinking of joining in on. It’s a New- Year’s-Resolution-Handmade-Clothing-Craft-along. This month’s theme is “Hats.” I think that’s something I can crochet. So I found an “easy” hat crochet pattern on the Interweave Press website.
I started making it yesterday, and made it to round 8 when I pulled out a SERIOUS rat’s nest from the skein. I couldn’t, no matter how hard I tried, get the stinking think untangled. I ended up breaking the yarn and tying the good ends together in a small knot. I hope it’s not noticable when I get to that part of the yarn. I guess that’s what I get for buying cheap yarn!
Anyway, the other themes for the craft-along are:
january – hat, touque, etc
february – scarf/shall/wrap
march - bag, clutch, purse, luggage
april – dress
may – skirt (boys – maybe a kilt )
june – shirt
july – undergarments, undies, boxer shorts, corset
august – pants
september – sweater / hoodie
october – costume
november - socks/slippers/shoes (good idea gimmiemoresalad)
december – jewelry
I don’t think I’ll do ALL of the months (like November, I don’t want to make any socks/slippers/shoes–at least I don’t think), but most months are things I think I can make.

New January Crochet Square
Oh, YAY! I made another January Crochet Square for the crochet-along on Craftster.org. It’s called Esther’s Square, and I LOVE it. It looks complicated, but all you have to know is single crochet and double crochet.
The other square I made turned out to be 10-inches in the center when it was supposed to be 11-inches. So, for this square, I went up 2 hook sizes to a “J.” Well… despite a larger hook size and making a conscious effort to loosen up, the center of this second square was also 10-inches! The yarn FEELS the same size to me, but maybe it’s not?
Also, it’s supposed to be 2 colors. I bought white as the second color despite getting a bad vibe about it in the store. The white just looks too “clean,” but I wasn’t sure what other color to pair with this blue (which I LOVE!). Yesterday, though, I saw, on the cover of a book, a purple and green combo that I really liked, and I think a medium frog-green will look pretty good with this blue so that’s what I’m going to do. I’ll hit Joann’s today while I have a 50% off coupon to use and get some green yarn.
Without further ado, here’s my second-ever crochet square:
